Tequila – which originates from the Tequila region in the Mexican state of Jalisco – should be sipped slowly, not slammed, to be fully appreciated.
Blanco: White or silver tequila has a clear appearance and is usually bottled immediately after distillation. It sometimes spending a few weeks in steel tanks and is quickly aged (if at all) in oak.
Reposado: “Rested” tequilas spend at least two months, or often up to nine months, aging in wooden casks for a richer flavor.
Añejo: Aged tequilas are stored for at least 12 months, but up to four years, in wooden barrels (often previously used in bourbon production).
